Apple has now released the first public version of macOS 27.0 Golden Gate, together with security updates taking Tahoe to 26.7, starting its first two years of security-only support, and Sequoia 15.8 starting its final year. As expected, there’s no security update to Sonoma, which is now unsupported.

The Golden Gate upgrade is again likely to be performed as an update, so doesn’t come as a separate Installer app unless you’re upgrading from a significantly older version of macOS. Here, it’s around 30.8 GB to download.

Security release notes for Golden Gate list around 206 items, none of them suspected of being exploited in the wild, while those for Tahoe and Sequoia seem almost as lengthy.

Apple’s descriptions of new features in Golden Gate are here, and details of removals and deprecations are here. It requires an Apple silicon Mac, including the MacBook Neo, and still includes Rosetta 2 for running Intel-only code, which isn’t due to be removed until macOS 28 next year.

This is likely to be accompanied by an update to XProtect Remediator, which I’ll detail in a separate article, once it’s installed here.
