Apple has now released the first public version of macOS 27.0 Golden Gate, together with security updates taking Tahoe to 26.7, starting its first two years of security-only support, and Sequoia 15.8 starting its final year. As expected, there’s no security update to Sonoma, which is now unsupported. As usual, the security updates for Tahoe and Sequoia are accompanied by a Safari update.

The Golden Gate upgrade is again performed as an update, so doesn’t come as a separate Installer app unless you’re upgrading from a significantly older version of macOS. Here, it was slightly less than its advertised 30.8 GB to download. This is a hefty upgrade, a tad larger than its IPSW image file, and took 16 minutes to install on a Mac mini M4 Pro.

Security release notes for Golden Gate list around 206 items, none of them suspected of being exploited in the wild, while those for Tahoe and Sequoia seem almost as lengthy.

The build number of 27.0 is 26A428 (the same as the release candidate), and its Safari is version 27.0 (22625.1.29.11.27). Apple silicon mBoot firmware is updated to 20457.1.29 (also in 26.7 and 15.8), and the new version of APFS is 3288.1.3.

Apple’s descriptions of new features in Golden Gate are here, and details of removals and deprecations are here. It requires an Apple silicon Mac, including the MacBook Neo, and still includes Rosetta 2 for running Intel-only code, which isn’t due to be removed until macOS 28 next year.

This is accompanied by an update to XProtect Remediator to bring it to version 159. However, that is only installed with Golden Gate, and hasn’t yet been offered via Software Update, so I’m not going to document it separately until it is. It makes no changes to the number of scanning modules, nor to the two Bastion files.
