Apple has just released the update bringing Golden Gate to 27.2 (there was no 27.1), and security updates for Tahoe to 26.7.2, and Sequoia to 15.8.2. There should also be matching Safari updates for Tahoe and Sequoia, available through Software Update.
The update to Golden Gate is claimed to be a staggering 21.8 GB to download.
Apple’s release notes are more detailed than usual, and include
- Several enhancements in Siri AI, including recalling past conversations, drawing from more sources such as photos in Messages, better app exclusion, Write with Siri in Mail, and wider language support including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, although it’s still not available in mainland China.
- Suggestions in Messages to help you take contextual actions.
- Improvements in Shared Albums in Photos in the editing of captions and comments without duplication.
- SynthID watermarking of AI-generated or manipulated images in Photos and Image Playground.
- Enhancements to the Home tab in Podcasts.
- FaceTime supports adding a third-party sign-language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
Security release notes for Golden Gate 27.2 list about 230 vulnerabilities that have been fixed, none of which Apple believes are being exploited in the wild yet. Notes for Tahoe are here, and for Sequoia here.
Enterprise notes for Golden Gate are here.
macOS 27.2 build number is 26B123. Firmware is updated to version 20457.41.3. Safari is version 27.2 (22625.2.8.11.9). Apple Intelligence is claimed to need 19.28 GB of storage, a marked reduction on its previous requirement. However, Time Machine users may notice a fresh 30 GB snapshot on the Data volume. That should be deleted automatically in 24 hours and free space return as a result.
As you can imagine, an update of this size contains thousands of individual updated bundles, and it’s not possible to give a meaningful account of everything that has changed. Almost all bundled apps have at least a significant increment in their build numbers, one notable exception being Disk Utility.
In /System/Library there are thousands of updated packages. Among the additions I noticed are a new Appex with the interesting name of frauddefensepfl.appex, a bunch of new private frameworks with names starting with AgenticFeedback, and others for SiriProcessing and SiriRaiseToSpeakExclave.
APFS is updated to version 3288.41.1, which looks surprisingly routine, although it has also had several vulnerabilities fixed.
Although these are still early hours, first impressions here are that 27.2 fixes all the most prominent problems with selection and focus. Those now appear to work correctly in the Finder, and in LogUI version 1.1. Pause for a muffled cheer.
