Apple has released macOS Sonoma 14.3, and security updates for Ventura and Monterey

Apple has just released the update to bring macOS Sonoma to version 14.3, and security updates for Ventura 13.6.4 and Monterey 12.7.3. I also expect that there are updates to Safari for the latter two versions of macOS.

All three updates contain an urgent patch to WebKit to address a vulnerability that is believed to have been exploited already: these are important and urgent updates.

Download size on an Apple silicon Mac is around 1.83 GB, and 1.48 GB on an Intel Mac.

Apple’s release notes offer the following improvements for 14.3:

  • collaborative playlists in Apple Music;
  • Emoji reactions to any track in collaborative playlists;
  • improved AppleCare coverage information.

I believe that this fixes two significant bugs: one that prevented macOS VMs on Apple silicon from accessing shared folders on the host, and the other that prevented changing passwords on encrypted sparse bundles. I will confirm those as soon as I can. I am also grateful to @lumingyin for telling me that this also fixes the bug in macOS virtualisation on Apple silicon that prevented older releases of macOS from being successfully updated to the current (security) release.

Security release notes are here for 14.3, here for 13.6.4, and here for 12.7.3. A total of 16 vulnerabilities are fixed in 14.3, including a WebKit bug believed to be exploited already. Ten are fixed in Ventura, and 6 in Monterey, both of which include that WebKit bug.

This brings firmware updates, taking iBoot on Apple silicon Macs to version 10151.81.1, and T2 Macs to 2020.80.5.0.1 (iBridge: 21.16.3049.0.0,0).

Note that there is also a separate update to XProtect which has also just been released.
