Apple has pushed a silent update to Gatekeeper’s security data

Less than 24 hours after releasing macOS Sierra 10.12.3 update, Apple has today pushed out a silent update which brings Gatekeeper Configuration Data to version 108, presumably for both macOS Sierra and OS X El Capitan.

As this is stored in a database, and Apple does not provide any information about these updates, I have no idea what this changes.

Anyone who now applies the Sierra 10.12.3 Combo update will need to ensure that they force fresh security updates immediately afterwards, or that Mac may continue to use version 107 of the Gatekeeper Configuration Data for many hours or days afterwards.

With the coming move to AFPS, do you foresee AFPS making older Mac apps obsolete, similar to the move from Power Macs to OS X?

  Not at all. As far as I am aware, AFPS will run on (almost) any storage system, from USB Flash memory stick to multi-disk RAID enclosure. If it doesn’t, then Apple has a serious problem with it!

    Thank you. I have a notebook full of powerpc cd’s that are obsolete. Hoped I wouldn’t face the same issue w my apps & the new AFPS.

      Apps should never go below the file system – and the only apps which could legitimately do so are those which, for instance, attempt to repair disk contents and file systems. Even they tend now to rely on system calls which are less affected by such changes.
      You should still be able to access those CDs, although of course PowerPC apps won’t run any more.
