I’m embarrassed to report that I have discovered two crashing bugs in Logistician version 1.1. These can crash the app with a divide by zero error when trying to open a JSONL log statistics file. Although reproducible with files that will cause this, most JSONL files don’t result in the error, and can be used normally. Unfortunately, though, there was no workaround without fixing the bugs, making it impossible for version 1.1 to open some perfectly valid log statistics files.

Logistician analyses the log statistics files generated by logd during its routine maintenance of the Unified log, and displays their data in charts. Although this might appear to be of limited appeal, it provides unique insights into what a Mac has been up to over the last few weeks. In some cases, its coverage of log activity can go back several months, and one of my Macs still has detailed log statistics for much of 2025. I will be publishing more about these features in an article here tomorrow.
