Apple has released macOS 15.6 Sequoia update, and 14.7.7 & 13.7.7

Apple has just released the update to bring macOS Sequoia to version 15.6, and security updates for 14.7.7 and 13.7.7.

The download for Apple silicon Macs is about 2.8 GB, and just under 2 GB for an Intel Mac.

Apple has released no further information about this update other than it bringing important bug and security fixes.

Security release notes are now available here for 15.6, here for 14.7.7 and here for 13.7.7. There are about 81 security issues fixed in 15.6, which must be a record. Apple doesn’t report that it’s aware of any of them being actively exploited, though.

On Apple silicon Macs, iBoot is updated to version 11881.140.96, and Intel Macs with T2 chips have their firmware updated to 2075.140.4.0.0 (iBridge 22.16.16083.0.0,0). The new version of Safari is 18.6 (20621.3.11.11.3), and the build number of 15.6 is 24G84.

  I think that’s not so unusual when there are no security patch updates between minor updates, as with 15.5 to 15.6.

And it took no more than half an hour for the new BridgeOS to crash with a kernel panic, tearing down the system in the process. Thanks, Apple.

    Actually, that’s not the response I expected to this rant. :D
    
    I didn’t save the log when the message appeared, but found an IPS file in /Library/Logs, guess it’s the same thing. Pasted it here:[link removed]
    
    It crashed right from standby without an obvious trigger. I’m quite knowledgeable about the OS but can’t make much of random memory addresses. Something with the Secure Enclave, ok. But is it of any use? As far as I know, there’s no way to access the BridgeOS file-system and do any changes to it. I know it can be re-installed with another Mac and the Apple Configurator, but not much else.

      Thank you. I agree that seems to have been a panic generated from inside the T2, although whether it’s come from the SEP isn’t clear.
      I suggest you check that your Mac’s firmware has been updated to the new version, including BridgeOS, of 2075.140.4.0.0 (iBridge 22.16.16083.0.0,0). If that’s correct, then I’d watch it to see if it panics again. If it does, it will be worth capturing the panic log as described. I think you should be able to refresh just the firmware rather than having to perform a full Restore, if you need, but I’d be tempted them to book it into an Apple store for them to sort out if it does recur.
      If the firmware update had gone wrong, I think it’s more likely it would panic during boot, resulting in a boot loop. Thankfully that’s not the case, so cross your fingers that it’s going to be on its best behaviour now.

Howard: just so you know I clicked that pastebin link above and it immediately brought up two malware / spam links/tabs/popups in safari Version 18.5 (19621.2.5.18.1, 19621) on iMac intel running Sonoma 14.7.6. fyi/fwiw Have now blocked those domains in little snitch and hosts file.
