Although The Time Machine Mechanic (T2M2) version 2 is aimed primarily at Macs making automatic hourly backups in macOS Sonoma, this new version should make it more useful for others, in particular:

• running Speed checks in Big Sur should now work correctly;
• checking daily, or even weekly, backups should provide meaningful results without irrelevant errors;
• most analyses should work better with Ventura, Monterey and Big Sur.

There’s one new control that should help those whose Macs aren’t expected to make regular hourly backups: this disables all scheduling checks. For those whose Macs should be running hourly automatic backups, I recommend that you tick the checkbox to Check scheduling, so that it can alert you to irregularities. Others should leave that checkbox empty, and they won’t be bothered with irrelevant results.

As T2M2 now has two settings to control its analyses and output, I have moved them down into a row of their own, so making the minimum size of the window smaller again.

As I don’t have an older system running Time Machine, I’m unable to test the effectiveness of T2M2 in extracting the information it needs from the log of older versions of macOS, so I’m flying a little blind here. I’m sure you’ll let me know what it gets right and whether any significant results are wrong.
