Apple has updated Sonoma to 14.2.1, and for Safari in Monterey and Ventura

Apple has just released an update to macOS Sonoma, bringing it to version 14.2.1.

On Intel Macs, the update is just over 400 MB, but is just over 1 GB for Apple silicon models.

Apple’s release notes are terse and uninformative, referring as usual to “important bug fixes and security updates”, and its security release notes cite a single vulnerability fixed in WindowServer, involving screen-sharing.

Changes seen in 14.2.1 include:

  • Safari to version 17.2.1 (19617.1.17.11.12)
  • ImageCapture framework, a single build increment
  • ICADevices framework, a single increment to 1873.2.5
  • ImageCaptureCore framework, a single increment to 1873.2.5
  • SafariSafeBrowsing private framework, build increment.

These suggest bugs being fixed in ImageCapture and Safari Safe Browsing, in addition to the fix in WindowServer. Those may relate to reported issues with screen capture and screen sharing in macOS 14.2.

There are also updates to XProtect, bringing it to version 2177, and XProtect Remediator, to 122. Those are detailed separately.

There also updates to Safari 17.2.1 for Monterey and Ventura.
