Apple has finally posted standalone updaters for Catalina and Mojave Security Updates

Apple has today posted standalone updaters for its Security Updates released for Catalina and Mojave over a week ago.

Mojave Security Update 2021-004 is available from here.

Catalina Security Update 2021-003 is available from here.

Confirmed that EFI Firmware in Catalina 2021-003 and Mojave 2021-004 are indeed in sync with Big Sur 11.4 and that none of the Macs that don’t support Big Sur got any EFI Firmware updates either since the last round of security updates.

  Without links or more info I can’t comment on specifics, but, yes, there are believed to be some unaddressed vulnerabilities which can lead to app installers installing unwanted software. But as ever I’m not aware of any which don’t start with the user downloading something by choice.
  Amazingly, the current favourite offer made by most malicious software is still the traditional Flash installer/updater! Users are still falling for that.

      The first of those links to the second, which states that the vulnerabilities described don’t actually have much impact on macOS security. As I’ve written elsewhere here, Installer packages have significant potential to be used by malware, but whether that potential is ever used maliciously is another matter.

Just in case you’re interested.. have you noticed Catalina 003 is tangibly slower in windowing responsiveness compared to 002? Any clues what could be causing this? I’ve noticed this on 2 Macs.. just reinstalled 002 and its very clear. If you care and have the knowledge, would be great to get some insight.. It almost feels like they forgot to turn the snappiness breaks on for older machines on that patch…
