A new batch of Hampshire Down lambs arrived near here last week, the second lambing of the Spring. As is usual, the mums and lambs have all been carefully numbered to ensure the right lamb asks the right ewe for milk, etc.

It’s a shame, though that no one explained this to the lambs, or taught them to count. They gambol round in a wandering creche which looks like a lottery machine on legs.

So when we are too wide awake to sleep, we can try checking all the numbers off instead of counting them. Can anyone see number 25?
