Apple has just released macOS Sequoia 15.3.2

Apple has just released an update for macOS Sequoia bringing it to version 15.3.2. There are also Safari updates available for Sonoma and Ventura.

The update for Apple silicon is about 1.45 GB in size, while that for Intel Macs is around 600 MB.

Security release notes are already available, and list a single WebKit vulnerability, that Apple states is a supplementary fix for an attack that was blocked in iOS 17.2, and in iOS had been exploited before it was fixed in iOS 17.2.

This sounds like the sort of thing that RSRs were for. Last I knew, Apple was silent on the subject, but it’s a fair inference that they’ve died a quiet death.

  Indeed. Apple’s docs still refer to them, though. Maybe they have one in store for 1 April.

    I am on vacation right now. This probably means that webkitgtk updates, on my several Linux VMs, will be on my list when I get home. This includes Gentoo, where packages build from source. Believe me, the time involved in handling macOS updates has nothing on building webkitgtk, which is almost as fast as watching grass grow :-)

Updated my 2018 Intel MBP to 15.3.2. Update size was around 600 MB as you said. Update went fine. Checking on things this morning…XProtect updated to 5290 with no poking and prodding on my part, and with Lungo running to keep laptop awake overnight, full scans ran starting around 2330 local at which point laptop was unattended for maybe 4-5 hours.

Could all this mean we are back to happy trees?

Just to balance the smooth installations, my 2023 MBP M3 Max needed manual intervention for the third update in a row. Started update last night and watched the progress bar get to about 90% and stop. This morning it was still in the same place and needed a force shutdown and restart to eventually complete. Details: 48GB, 1TB SSD with 216GB free. No kernel extensions. SilentKnight ran with no exceptions. Any ideas gratefully accepted.

P.S. Wife’s 2020 MBA updated normally with no issues, except KEXT at 20.0.0 but SK thought it should be 19.4.0.

  I’m sorry to hear that.
  Your wife is running an old version of SilentKnight, which is why it’s showing that older version still.
  With your MBP, I’d be inclined to run hardware diagnostics, and then a full First Aid in Disk Utility in Recovery mode. Something there doesn’t seem quite right – it’s behaving like my ageing iMac Pro, not how a sprightly M3 Max should.

Upgraded to 15.3.2 yesterday on my M1 without issue. Everything seems fine until today when I tried to take a screen shot with Command-Shift-4. The tiny edit window appeared in the lower right, but didn’t appear on the desktop. Command-Shift-3 seems OK. I’m transcoding some MKV–>MP4 files while this is going on.

ls -lart ~/Desktop showed the snapshot jpg has a “.” at the beginning of the name. I’m thinking maybe whatever process that renames the .Screenshot to Screenshot is borked by the heavy transcoding after the editing pop up. This has never been a problem before the upgrade.

Anyone else seen this?

  Have you checked Options in Command-Shift-5 to see if Show Floating Thumbnail is set as you expect?

  I am also missing the floating thumbnail since updating to 15.3.2
  
  Cmd+Shift+5 > Options shows the option unchecked – it was checked before the update

    I’m sorry to hear that. I know of one other user who has a similar problem, and can’t seem to get the setting to stick across restarts.

      I’ve since rebooted a couple times (SOP) and tried snapshotting while the system was transcoding again. The problem went away.
      
      As is so common with computers (or random “weird stuff” in life), I have a Default Answer™ for when someone asks “So, what was wrong?”:
      
      There was schpilkis in the genektazoink.
      
      This answer is most useful when some manager wants technical details but doesn’t have the background or knowledge to understand them. Youtube’s Jeff Geerling points to a relevant haiku (which probably didn’t apply here):

It’s very strange that the Ventura 13.7.5 update has not been released yet. Apparently an RC 3 version of 13.7.5 was released on Monday, but four days later, the official 13.7.5 release has still not appeared.

  This appears to be complicated.
  There isn’t really a 14.7.5 or 13.7.5. Having recently updated one of my VMs from 14.7.3, it doesn’t become 14.7.5, only 14.7.4 with the Safari update. However, in terms of full installers, that can’t be 14.7.4, which had the older Safari, so there Apple seems to refer to it as 14.7.5.
  So if you’re updating Ventura, the current version is still 13.7.4, plus the new Safari update. If you’re installing it afresh, it might call itself 13.7.5, but isn’t any different.
  Such are the quirks of macOS version numbering.

    What really confused me was that I thought I saw a new Sonoma update being offered on a different Mac, so it looked to me like the Ventura 13.7.5 update was supposed to be released as well this week but somehow got held up.
    
    In hindsight, I must have still been half asleep when my brain hallucinated that non-existing Sonoma release. Sorry for the confusion.

      No problems – the confusion is all Apple’s. No matter what system it uses for numbering the versions of macOS, somewhere it always goes awry, and we end up not understanding the system. This is one of those points, I fear!
      The next question, of course, is whether the next security updates will be 13.7.6 and 14.7.6, making everyone wonder why their Mac missed x.7.5 out.

Interesting development. I did Command-Shift-5 and poked around the settings. There were two entries for Desktop. It was set to the 2nd one. I selected the 1st and hit return. The screen remained partially blocked out with the selected area brighter. It wouldn’t go away until I clicked Cmd-Shift-5 again and clicked “Stop Recording”. A mov file appeared on the Desktop, but it stopped masking the selected area.

And yes, the Floating Thumbnail was selected. It appeared in the original problem. I just didn’t know what to call it.

I have to try this when the system is transcoding to see if load affects this. Why there are 2 Desktop selections is unknown. Where is the 2nd one?
