They could come from God (messages), emails (messages), or inner meanings (messages e.g. in paintings) from 2012 (although already available on iPhones, it was first released for OS X in July 2012, replacing iChat).
2: Confession of gossip, its messages came in speech bubbles in 2002.

Confession of gossip (‘I chat’), its messages came in speech bubbles (they did) in 2002 (it was the predecessor of Messages, and introduced in Mac OS X 10.2 in 2002).
3: Taken before firing, it lasted in AOL for 20 years from 1997.

Taken before firing (‘take aim’), it lasted in AOL (it stands for AOL Instant Messenger) for 20 years from 1997 (released in 1997, it was discontinued 20 years later). (The AIM protocol was supported by iChat, which was also the first AIM client for Mac OS X.)
