Many will be wondering where they should go to shop for Christmas this year.
Although flying to New York can be fun, the weather is often pretty grim, and the presents little different from those in Europe.
I have a suggestion: fly to China (expensive) and visit the local Walmart store (much cheaper). Answers has helpfully put together a list of twenty things you will then be able to buy, which no-one in Europe or the US would dream of giving for Christmas.
I do have my doubts about the first, “Diet Water”, but I am sure that you can think of someone dumb enough to appreciate it.
Many thanks to the wonderful Professor Victor Mair who drew attention to this on Language Log, where he discusses those which are linguistically interesting.
