Did Sierra systems have a silent update to OSX1012IncompatibleAppList around 4 January 2018? It looks like another worrying mistake by Apple.

Here’s how to find out just what that last update installed, so you can remove it manually if necessary.
New batch file mode can add (e.g.) copyright metadata to hundreds or thousands of files. Handles unusual characters properly. Can also remove extended attributes.
Adds keywords, author, copyright and other info to any file on your Mac. Runs in El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra.
This new version should run OK on El Capitan, but has no functional changes apart from that.
Want to make local Spotlight searches more effective? Add keywords to their metadata, such as Finder Comments. But there are some snags.
