I may at last have found a way to reduce the frequency of freezing in OS X 10.11.4 and later.

New toys expected include Siri for OS X, and OS X 10.12. Those should really please users with Macs that keep freezing, and bricked iPad Pros.
10.11.5 removes a bug in Disk Utility by disabling the feature to resize some partitions. That’s really helpful, isn’t it.
After another system freeze, it is clear the problems in El Capitan are not fixed in 10.11.5.
