Don Quixote runs amok at a puppet show, destroying all the puppets, then has to beat a hasty retreat when Sancho brays out of turn.
A mule loaded with weapons leads them to an inn, where they’re told the story of the villagers who were going to fight over their braying. Then a puppeteer arrives with a performing ape.
They visit the Cave of Montesinos, where Don Quixote is lowered into the chasm and reports an extraordinary story about a castle of crystal.
Don Quixote and Sancho Panza attend the grand wedding. But the bride’s original suitor turns up and says over his dead body.
Four days of relaxation before Don Quixote drags Sancho Panza back out onto the road, where they witness a fencing duel.
The pair meet a hidalgo, then a cart loaded with two lions. Despite protests from everyone, Don Quixote insists on facing the lions to show what sort of a man he is.
They meet a mysterious knight and his squire, whose boasts about beating Don Quixote de la Mancha don’t ring true. So off to combat.
First Sancho convinces Don Quixote that an ugly peasant girl stinking of garlic is Lady Dulcinea, then they bump into a troupe of actors and nearly get stoned again.
After last ditch attempts to stop them, Don Quixote and his squire Sancho Panza are off on their third sally, this time heading for Lady Dulcinea in El Toboso.
