The Sack of Troy, Turner, Vesuvius erupting, an unusual Manet maritime, Vallotton, Paul Nash, Monet, Luce, Signac, Stella and more going up in smoke.
Between 1774-79 he painted views of the mountains, glaciers and waterfalls of the Alps. And he even made oil sketches in front of the motif.
The period 1700 to 1850 saw the introduction of the first modern pigments, such as Prussian blue and emerald green, which started to transform paintings.
